Product Description

Cappuccino isopods are a beautiful and highly sought-after Cubaris known for their warm coffee, caramel, cream and beige colouring. Their unique markings give them the appearance of a little cup of cappuccino, which is where their popular name comes from.

These tropical isopods are native to Southeast Asia, including Thailand, and are prized by isopod keepers for their distinctive appearance, calm nature and interesting behaviour. They are a wonderful addition to naturalistic terrariums and established isopod collections.

Cappuccinos prefer a warm, humid environment with good ventilation and a moisture gradient, allowing them to move between damp and drier areas as needed. They enjoy plenty of leaf litter, decaying hardwood, moss and natural hiding places.

Characteristic Features

  • ☕ Their beautiful coffee-and-cream colouring makes them one of the most recognizable Cubaris varieties.

  • 🌙 Cappuccino isopods are primarily nocturnal, becoming more active in the evening and at night.

  • 🍂 They are detritivores and naturally feed on decaying leaves, rotting wood and other organic material.

  • 🌿 They appreciate plenty of leaf litter, cork bark, decaying hardwood and moss for food, shelter and security.

  • 💧 They require higher humidity, but the enclosure should not remain completely saturated. A damp area and a somewhat drier area allow the colony to regulate its moisture needs.

  • 🪨 A constant source of calcium such as cuttlebone or limestone is important for healthy moulting and exoskeleton development.

  • 🏡 They are social animals and can be found clustering together beneath bark, leaf litter and other sheltered areas.

  • 🛡️ Like other isopods, they may curl into a defensive ball when disturbed, although Cappuccinos are generally considered calm and docile.

  • 🐌 Cappuccino colonies generally reproduce more slowly than some of the faster-breeding hobby species, so patience is important while establishing a colony.

  • 🌱 Once established in the proper environment, they can make a beautiful addition to tropical bioactive terrariums and dedicated isopod cultures.

❤️ Care Tip

Cappuccino isopods do best when their enclosure provides stable warmth, humidity, ventilation and plenty of natural food and hiding places. Avoid allowing the entire enclosure to become waterlogged. A good moisture gradient gives your colony the ability to choose the conditions it needs.
